Cut Copy - Far Away (Rad Redux)

Two years ago I posted a Cut Copy/Rad mashup that was quasi-successful (100K+ views, not bad for a 5 minute vid), but the quality was terrible. The source video was a YouTube rip (after who knows how many compressions) which was then edited and re-uploaded, and the audio was a shitty MySpace rip (In Ghost Colours hadn't come out yet).

This movie*, this band, and you the reader all deserve better. So allow me to introduce a much higher quality version, complete with tighter edits and some new high school danceoff scenes from earlier in the movie (3:03!). Enjoy.

*Fun fact: the family in the center of the Butter Team header is enjoying a 1971 RCA color TV with an XL-100 advanced tuning system and Solid State Accucolor. They are excited about this transformative technology and what it will do for their lives. They're preparing to watch Rad, except the opening title sequence was replaced with "Butter Team," which by transference leads them to conclude this blog is rad.

Far Away Rmxs

Can't say Cut Copy's "Far Away" could possibly be improved upon or that I'd rather listen to any of these remixes over the original, but you can be the judge on that. The important thing is we're celebrating victorious radness in all of its forms today (Radiohead are also marking the occasion with a semi-fresh rmx of "Harrowdown Hill" via Dead Air Space, mp3 here).

Far Away (Ring Trick Rmx)

Far Away (Bag Raiders Rmx)

Far Away (ddpesh Rmx)

Update: Even more Far Away remixes

And for the sixteenth time, we plug the unofficial BT video for this song, which shall remain the default until they actually make one:

A Night Out With Cut Copy + Awards

Homeys tore up Webster Hall on Sunday night; and we tore up the upstairs balcony couch cushions with a new bounce/dance combo move called "Where's our teacher? She hasn't shown up yet!" that's most similar to how the kids at Polly Fector Elementary roll before Miss Vaughn arrives.

And jackpot, indeed. Some alt bros had a hard time figuring out how to dance to "Strangers in the Wind," but then the entire crowd miraculously synched up to do the Teen Wolf freeze/lock for about ten seconds during "Time Stands Still." No one knows where moments like these come from, but it was amazing. Now for some Cutters accolades:

Best remix from CSS' new album:

CSS - Move (Cut Copy Remix)

Donkey haters need to fall back.

Best bonus track featured on the UK release of In Ghost Colours:

Cut Copy - Cold Youth

It's the only one, so. They started occasionally dropping "Cold Youth" during extended sets around 2006, which would explain why the sound seems a bit sloppier compared to IGC's top gear production values. Makes a good case for Japanese bonus tracks.

Best post-show calmdown jam:

Cut Copy - Hearts on Fire (Triobelisk/Celestronica Remix)

Serve with ribs and Growing Pains repeats. If you can get your hands on any of the international syndicated versions, try Latin America's Ay! Cómo duele crecer, literally translated to mean "Ouch! How painful is growing up."

Best Cut Copy DJ mix we haven't posted on BT yet:

A Night Out With Cut Copy (96 MB)

A quaint 2K6 Ableton capsule redeemed by early nods to Poni Hoax/Zongamin and several high fidelity classics. Full tracklist here.

Raddest Butter Team produced Cut Copy video:

Sound quality is beat b/c it was grabbed from a MySpace stream, but you should still get misty when Bart Connor slows down to wait for Cru in the final lap.

Butteriest fake Cut Copy commercial:

Sony's new Foam City campaign featuring "Visions." Wow - really didn't think I'd be up here twice, so, I guess, just thanks again.

Dealing with Cut Copy Withdrawal?

You're not alone, that was a dope show. Maybe you've felt a little gloomy since then and kept In Ghost Colours on repeat, visualizing yourself back at Sonar sans stainful alt bros. Maybe you hit the remix circuit or even mashed up cutters tracks with popular movies or commercials.

Cut Copy - Hearts on Fire (Polygon Palace Rmx)

Cut Copy - Hearts on Fire (Knightlife Rmx) via Hipster Runoff

But it's time to try something else, so I'm just gonna put this out there; if you like it, you can take it, if you don't, send it right back. Booka Shade. Most of their new one (The Sun & The Neon Light) follows traditional top gear German electro lineage, but lead single "Charlotte," which scientists may later discover contains auditory blueprints for a prehistoric utopian civilization, sounds like a fresh round of subterranean assaults in the Aussie/French banger wars.

Cutters Pics From Saturday + Rad DJ Mix

Alternative bros with orange tongues ruled the scene, but regardless, cutters still dipped some chicken in it.

My favorite part of the experience was the sweaty, underaged girl in front of me with a backless shirt, bouncing against everyone like an old guy at the Y. But then she initiated a reverse grind into the married alternative bro next to me for a few songs, who didn't mind, and the universe was calm. View the full set from Josh Sisk.

Cut Copy - Rendezvous (from 2001's Rendezvous EP, pretty sure it's out of print)

Cut Copy Dream Sequence + Black Kids Bonus Beats

Cut Copy comes to Baltimore in less than a week - how are you supposed to get any sleep with a show like this just around the corner? Try listening to this specially-prepared Butter Team sampler fusing various intro/outro sequences together from In Ghost Colours. We can't offer this for download so just move the computer next to your head/the bed. Add seagulls and paprika for a soothing seaside effect.

Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours Dream Sequence

The Black Kids on Cut Copy:

"Imagine that you've spent the past ten years of your life playing in unremarkable bands. One day, you awake to find you are no longer unremarkable. Pundits and bloggers hail you as remarkably awesome or remarkably shit. You just go with it. Along the way, someone asks if you want to 'co-headline' a tour with a group you admire. This is a joke - this pretense of co-headlining (because they are awesome and you are not) - but you eagerly say, 'Yes, PLEASE.' Shortly after you've agreed to tour with these guys, they release In Ghost Colours. You realize that this is the record of the year and that you will get to witness it live EVERY NIGHT. You - helplessly, appropriately - wig out."

Black Kids - Hurricane Jane (Beige Remix)

Kate Nash - I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You (Black Kids cover)

The Avalanches - Diners Only (from Since I Left You)

The Go! Team - Did U Feel It Too? (from Are You Ready For More?)

Butter Team Weekend Beats Vol. 20

While most Bavarians are stingy with their beats, we are not, so get nice with a new toaster from Melbourne's hottest mothercutters, pre-order In Ghost Colours here and check the stateside tour dates below. This is all very exciting for us.

Mar 10 2008 - Echo - Los Angeles
Mar 15 2008 - Studio B - New York
Mar 17 2008 - Mercury Lounge - New York

And sweet Pete, if you haven't heard this Holy Ghost track yet (from the DFA crew) get ready for a proper face melting. It's part of the So Cosmic mix Cut Copy dropped last month, and follows Daft Punk's Face to Face and the Airwolf theme on my "let's chase chickens in sweats" athletic training montage mix.

P.S. Dr. Octagon posts up in the B tonight at Sonar with king of microphone techniques Jeru the Damaja. Going to bars is fun, going to bars where Kool Keith spits is tops.

Cut Copy - Lights and Music (stream only by request)
Holy Ghost! - Hold On

Flash That Buttery Gold

Yes we know the blogger community was talking about None Shall Pass in July or some other long gone era. Thought you had us for a second though!

Probably already assembling a devastatingly dry and witty comment centered around our un-timeliness. (We actually only prefer compliments, such as your beard is nice or you're good at finding shortcuts.)

But no, just wanted to congratulate Aesop Rock for wrassling the ADD mechanical bull that is our ipods, holding tight in heavy rotation for several months, and earning the 3Q 2007 Award for Continuous Portable Music Play. Against stiff competition no less, what with Joe Satriani, Drowning Pool and Atreyu all releasing stellar LPs.

Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass

Ok wake to this grocery list - try to guess which of the following songs has not been continuously on our collective playlists for the past several years.

1. Gangstarr - Zonin'
2. Cut Copy - Zap Zap
3. Theme: The Neverending Story (bonus Halloween costume idea: Falcor!!)

Just know that even participating in this activity means you're a winner, so afterwards take five with some purple stuff or Sunny D. Also know that by not participating you risk the chance of being one of these.
