Cut Copy - Far Away (Rad Redux)

Two years ago I posted a Cut Copy/Rad mashup that was quasi-successful (100K+ views, not bad for a 5 minute vid), but the quality was terrible. The source video was a YouTube rip (after who knows how many compressions) which was then edited and re-uploaded, and the audio was a shitty MySpace rip (In Ghost Colours hadn't come out yet).

This movie*, this band, and you the reader all deserve better. So allow me to introduce a much higher quality version, complete with tighter edits and some new high school danceoff scenes from earlier in the movie (3:03!). Enjoy.



*Fun fact: the family in the center of the Butter Team header is enjoying a 1971 RCA color TV with an XL-100 advanced tuning system and Solid State Accucolor. They are excited about this transformative technology and what it will do for their lives. They're preparing to watch Rad, except the opening title sequence was replaced with "Butter Team," which by transference leads them to conclude this blog is rad.

Rad Repost: All Too Vivid

New Cut Copy - Far Away

Even quasi-regular Butter Team readers know we are super USA #1 fans of Melbourne's Cut Copy. Big news - the cutters have been kind enough to host a MySpace pre-release listening party for our most anticipated album of 2008, In Ghost Colours, which drops in Australia next week. Rad II: The Matthew Modine Challenge

We've waited more than 20 years for a Rad sequel, signed the DVD petition, and still nothing. So this week the Butter Team crew took the matter into our own hands and began filming Rad II: The Matthew Modine Challenge.

The movie takes place in Baltimore, 2009, where all bikes have been banned and the punk kids instead turn to freestyle stair climbing and radical monument jumping. Matthew Modine issues a challenge to climb the Mount Vernon tower stairs using fresh moves, and the plot follows two young men as they train and prepare to answer this call. It's really turning out to be something special, our goal is to have the single longest training montage in Amercian cinematic history, right now we're up to about 55 minutes.

A few changes in the lineup as the original actors were now way too old to participate - we actually hired Cru Jones' cousin Dennis Jones and Bart Connor's son Terrence Connor to fill the archetypal underdog/reigning champ roles. We were unable to find suitable lookalikes for the Reynolds twins.
